Every Friday, we will share links to news, blogs, and anything else we find interesting. We can’t catch everything, so you are invited to self-promote in the comments!
Ace Blogging
Elizabeth Rogers wrote about being asexual and having cystic fibrosis.
grzanka and coyote independently wrote about the history and ownership of the word “queerplatonic”.
There was some heated tumblr discussion about the history of the Ace of Spades as an ace and aro ace symbol.
There’s also a great tumblr conversation right now about how living with people other than just sexual/romantic partners is historically more common than the today’s focus on the nuclear family structure would imply.
Lib Writes about being ace and aro at 30 and how it differs from being a younger person, as well as why we should uplift more stories about being happily single.
Ace Community Activity
AVEN is conducting a pre-event survey to determination interest for a 2019 Edinburgh asexuality conference.
There’s a new discord server for aces who are interested in dating.
The roundup of posts from last month’s join Carnival of Aces and Carnival of Aros has now been posted.
Calls for Participants/Submissions
The Asexual Agenda is looking for new writers, as well as volunteers to help out with this very linkspam.
Asexual Artists is looking for more ace artists to interview.
Weirdly enough, I remember seeing that post in 2016. I guess FYA picked it up and got it circulating again?
There are also some (similar…ish…) critiques of the nuclear family in academia, as you might expect, but that’s not really my area, so personally I have yet to find a good source I could really point to as a satisfactory example of its type. But seeing people talking about it again does make me feel inclined to maybe go looking, if folks are interested. This seems like something that really should be higher profile in ace and aro conversations both.
Yeah I saw that post a long time ago on tumblr. If you do research, Coyote, I would be interested in finding out what you find though.
Did part of this post get swallowed?
Oh, that was my fault! I confused the drafts, and had replaced it with next week’s linkspam draft. Thanks for pointing it out!
Suggesting another link for the next linkspam: AssignedGothAtBirth recently shared a post on different definitions of sensual attraction.
Thanks, I’m putting it in.
I can’t comment on pfio, but to my knowledge sensual attraction dates much further back than 2009. You can find it in this 2006 AVENwiki article. And the AVENwiki was created in 2006, so it might be even older.
