Linkspam: July 18th, 2014

Every Friday, we will share links to news, blogs, and anything else we find interesting.  We can’t catch everything, so you are invited to self-promote in the comments!

Harmony Ink Press is seeking submissions with aromantic/asexual characters.

The zine F-ACE-ing the Silence, about people silenced in ace spaces, has been completed.  (Also see print-friendly version.)

Also!  The zine Rotten Zucchinis, about queerplatonic relationships that don’t go well, is available.  (see print-friendly version)

CJ Chasin, the author of the new academic article we cited last week, has provided a link to an earlier version of the paper.

The Thinking Asexual had a response to last month’s Carnival of Aces (theme: pleasure) that somehow got left out.

The Star ran an opinion piece on when sex just isn’t your cup of tea.  aceadmiral responds.

About queenieofaces

QueenieOfAces is a graduate student in the U.S. studying Japanese religion. She is a queer asexual. She also blogs over at Concept Awesome and runs Resources for Ace Survivors. She is never quite sure what to write in these introduction things, but this one time she accidentally got a short story on asexuality published in an erotica magazine.

Wow, that Star opinion piece is the most absurd thing I have read in a long time. It’s like someone has tried really hard to be cute and edgy and utterly, utterly failed. In every way imaginable.

That article makes me want to cringe in EVERY sentence. They were condescending and horrible under the guise of simply having “common sense” and being a “nice” reasonable person and AH I just can’t stand that awful article.

Thanks for Ace Admiral’s response and Ace Toronto, thank you for the additional links and responses. 😀

    • Cleander says:

There’s also the aspect of “So there was this parade, and this conference, and I didn’t go to either, but I did read another article from someone who actually knows what sources and research are, so I’m going to opine about this for several paragraphs based on a few sentences of secondhand knowledge”.

Like, even if you ignore the affronts to asexuality it’s already an affront to basic journalism.

I’ve read maybe half of that F-ACE-ing the Silence zine so far, thanks to your linkspam here, and gosh I am really enjoying it. 😀

Per usual thank you for the entire linkspam. I, for one, always appreciate it.

    • The F-ACE-ing silence zine is really good and I identify a lot with a couple of the stories shared in it.

      • Ace in Translation says:

ooooh I’m going to join the F-ACE-ing appreciation comments. I’ve read both F-ACE-ing and Rotten Zucchinis. Both zines are very powerful and definitely some very recognisable stuff. So many good things said. I hope they will spark more discussion about the topics they cover.

        • luvtheheaven says:

Yeah. I agree completely with everything you said. I read through both zines in their entirety. And they were both SO worth reading. 😉 And the things in them SO worth discussing.

  3. Liz says:

It’s very frustrating that the Star piece first wonders why asexuals bother to talk about themselves, then goes on to describe their lives completely inaccurately. Sexual romance is not the only reason people change their lives for love of another person. This kind of ignorance is exactly why asexual people need to make their voices heard.
