Linkspam: April 4th, 2014

Every Friday, we will share links to news, blogs, and anything else we find interesting.  We can’t catch everything, so you are invited to self-promote in the comments!

Asexuality got a (kind of lousy) mention in an article on “late”-in-life virginity loss.

tristifere discovered a Dutch television show with an openly asexual character.

Asexy April has officially begun.

The Ace Theist writes about reworking frameworks of acceptance.

There’s a workshop on asexuality and consent and the University of Washington that is looking for participants.

nextstepcake made a linkspam of comics featuring asexuality.

About queenieofaces

QueenieOfAces is a graduate student in the U.S. studying Japanese religion. She is a queer asexual. She also blogs over at Concept Awesome and runs Resources for Ace Survivors. She is never quite sure what to write in these introduction things, but this one time she accidentally got a short story on asexuality published in an erotica magazine.

“Asexuality got a (kind of lousy) mention”

Lol. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen you inject commentary in a linkspam. It made me curious as to what kind of mention warranted being called “kinda of lousy”, so I went and read the article, and… yeah, that was lousy.

Brienne Strohl wrote an awesome blog post on cuddling. Not strictly ace-related, but it’s more relevant than that Atlantic article, I’d say.

I’ve got some comic suggestions for nextstepcake, and I’m going to leave them here because tumblr’s ask box is not accommodating of linkspam:
Dan Shive, creator of EGS, announced early on that the comic would feature an asexual character. We still don’t know which one he was talking about, and there has been much speculation. It’s pretty clear that Grace and the other chimeras are ace, at any rate.
Lily of Leftover Soup is ace (also uncomfortably misandrist), and the creator has stated that Gina is demi.
Theo of the short comic Horizontal Process is ace.
Serenity of Heart-Shaped Skull talks about being unsure of her orientation, and how she’s only ever felt attracted to one person. She never uses the terms ‘demisexual’ and ‘grey-a’, but they do seem to fit.
Unapologetic Ace did a handful of one-shots.

Actually, I’m going to self promote a bit: I recently put together an FAQ for students wanting to write or study asexuality:

Any suggestions about other common questions or bits of advice are welcome!

  4. I wrote a post relating to my experiences with demisexual vis-ed earlier this week: A question begged, in asexual and demisexual vis-ed.

  5. Charli says:

There is in New Zealand a soap that had an asexual character, too.

  6. Cleander says:

Oh, and one more to drop here: there’s been a new asexual character sighting on USA’s Sirens!

    • queenieofaces says:

Yep, it’s already in the linkspam! 😀 I’m excited by all these ace characters suddenly coming out of the woodwork.

Saw this and thought it might be OK for next weeks’s linkspam:
