Ace Admiral found and reviewed what sounds like a very interesting book with an explicitly asexual character: Shuumatsu wa Kazoku.  Also see their list of books with explicitly asexual characters.

Queenie found an article about Buddhism and the “third sex”, a category that included asexual people.
